Social media-related contest: Use it to promote benefit auction

Sherry Truhlar 1 Comment

Social media is growing at exponential rates.

My favorite video on the subject (the short version is below) is produced by Erik Qualman, an online marketer and author. The statistics he shares are compelling (e.g. 1 out of 8 American couples married last year met online… social media has surpassed porn as the #1 activity on the Internet), and the music … well, the music is by Fat Boy Slim, one of my favorite musicians, and my preferred music to play while cleaning the house.

(You can poke around on You Tube if you want to find the longer version for 2009.)

Because social media is growing so quickly, I’ve seen a number of companies creating contests tied to it.

One contest was promoted on my Twitter community today. The contest is called Share to Win; it’s being offered by a company called 3banana. Prizes vary from $1000 to $5000.

If you aren’t using social media in your benefit auction marketing plan (or aren’t using it at all) because you don’t think “your audience” uses it, reconsider.

I’ll be posting more blogs on this in the upcoming weeks.

Meanwhile, I invite you to follow me on Twitter as AuctionExpert, and connect to my Fan Page on Facebook.

Thanks for sharing that info Sherry! I’ll pass it on to some other nonprofits who will want to play.
