Alternatives to the sit-down dinner gala

Sherry Truhlar 2 Comments

Maybe it’s time for a change.

You might feel like it’s time to revamp your traditional sit-down dinner gala.  Maybe you want a more informal, “social” vibe.  Maybe the auction needs a layout shake-up.  Maybe you’ve changed venues and — Ugh, those tables! — a sit-down dinner simply won’t fit.

Watch the video to see six options that will shake-up the layout, formality and overall vibe of your fundraising auction.

Event Set-ups
  1. Modified sit-down dinner
  2. Theater
  3. Theater-inspired
  4. Theater-inspired for school gyms specifically
  5. Lounge
  6. Dance Club

Have you abandoned the traditional sit-down dinner gala?

If so, I’d love to hear about what event style you’ve adopted and lessons you’ve learned in the process.

    Hi Sherry,
I loved this video! I’m fairly new at running our clubs fundraising auction and the committee has always liked having theater style seating and standing room only, no sit-down dinner. I didn’t know why this was so important to them. You explained these variations really well and now I understand the need for “immediacy” and facing the auctioneer. Thanks so much for your valuable insight!

(you can post this in your next newsletter if you want.)
