VIDEO: Q&A on selling branded merchandise in school auctions

Sherry Truhlar 2 Comments

Though this concept is a nice idea for any nonprofit auction, branded merchandise is – hands down – a better fit for schools as it ties into school spirit. It’s a great idea for those school auctions wanting to raise few hundred to a few thousand dollars more.

Suggestions on what to sell and how the activities are managed are detailed in the video.

I agree — the towel didn’t make someone buy it, though it might have made someone LOOK at it. In short, I think it’s important to have good visual marketing, and sometimes the displays of which you speak are the most marketing that an item gets. Using your same logic, I’m hoping you don’t spend money on a band. Guests rarely buy a ticket to hear a band play at a gala … unless the band is called Aerosmith or Maroon 5.

    Sherry,

Just wanted your opinion on something. Do you think it’s important to buy additional “props” for expensive packages and send them home with the bidder? i.e. A beach towel and picnic basket with a weekend stay in a lake cabin. I think it’s a waste of money but my boss likes the idea. This package by the way sold for $700. I doubt the towel made someone buy it.
    Thanks
