ChatGPT for auction planning

Sherry Truhlar 2 Comments

Today I participated in an educational panel focused on event planning for associations.  One of the participant questions was about ChatGPT.  She wanted to know if and how anyone was using it.

“What is ChatGPT?” was one of the first comments back.

ChatGPT is  not really an “auction tool” or an “event tool,” though it certainly can be used for both.   I find it creepy, so I’ve been avoiding publishing anything about it.  But with her posed question, I suspect others might also be wondering about its possible uses, so today I’m diving into it.

The artificial intelligence chatbot known as ChatGPT made its debut in November 2022. I started playing with the tool over the Christmas holiday.

Since it’s release, creators have published thousands of videos and articles about it, sharing ideas on how to use it and possible future uses.

I agree that it’s an amazing tool. Even so, I’m not a fan.

In today’s video, I spend the first half talking about why AI makes me uneasy.

And in the final 10 minutes I’ll show you how to use ChatGPT to manage auction tasks like researching new venues and finding auction donations. I’ll finish by letting ChatGPT write an eloquent  sponsorship letter for you — in less than 10 seconds.

Questions posed to ChatGPT:

  • What are some D.C. venues that will accommodate a crowd size of 250-350.
  • What are some newer venue spaces in DC that are better for a smaller crowd size, no more than 350.
  • What is a sample timeline for a school auction?
  • What are some companies that donate to auction galas?
  • Give me a list of Virginia-based companies that have a page on their website devoted to auction donations
  • Write a sponsorship thank-you letter

What’s your take on artificial intelligence?

This was super interesting and helpful, Sherry! Appreciate your sharing it with us. The demo was pretty impressive. I agree, though, …. the A.I. is a bit worrisome. I have watched too many Sci-Fi movies. LOL!

Thanks for sharing your expertise, as always!

Thanks for chiming in, Mark. Yes, 2001 Space Odyssey was on track.
