Changes to consider for your 2022 auction gala

We're headed back to the ballroom in 2022. My clients are planning in-person galas for next year, but that doesn't mean they have stopped considering the impact of COVID-19.  Instead, they are making adjustments to manage concerns from guests.  Overall, there's a strong desire to host the event in-person. I’m seeing adjustments being made to the live auction, silent auction, entertainment, and venue layout. I don't know that I'd call these auction trends because I suspect some of these ... Read On >

The 9 best auction themes from 2019

In the process of pulling together content for my new Auction Item Guide, I was reminded of the many themes my clients used over the past year. Here are the auction themes I thought most creative. If you're running a wine auction or considering launching one in your community, take a look at how these two fundraisers are structured.  Both of these are successful events in their markets.  Let's look at highlights from each event. Vintage Amarillo Earlier this year, the ... Read On >

Here's a quick tip on how to improve your auction item displays when you're offering a trip in either the silent or live auction. Use a photo book in your display.  "Photo book" is the name I give to books (and I use the term "books" loosely) which feature photos of the inside of the property, outside of the property, and activities to do in the area. Think of it as a handmade version of a traditional coffee table picture book. Sometimes these books are a few pieces of paper stapled ... Read On >

Alternatives to the sit-down dinner gala

Maybe it's time for a change. You might feel like it's time to revamp your traditional sit-down dinner gala.  Maybe you want a more informal, "social" vibe.  Maybe the auction needs a layout shake-up.  Maybe you've changed venues and -- Ugh, those tables! -- a sit-down dinner simply won't fit. Watch the video to see six options that will shake-up the layout, formality and overall vibe of your fundraising auction. Event Set-ups Modified sit-down dinner Theater Theater-inspired ...
