Benefit auction sponsorship can grow, if you look in the right places
I always seem to be behind in my reading. But as it’s summer, the good news is that my dated magazines are portable to the swimming pool in ways that a Nook or Kindle aren’t. I can stand in 4′ of water, arms on the concrete ledge, and read during sticky June temperatures with no cares as to whether my magazine gets sopping wet with chlorinated water.
So this past weekend in the March issue of INC magazine, I read an article (page 23) called “Why Inc. 500 CEOs Are Smiling: They’re getting ready for good times ahead – and they’re creating jobs.” INC conducted a poll of Inc. 500 CEOs and found that the vast majority have been hiring and will continue to do to through 2010.
Ninety-three percent of the companies which responded expected to hire within the next six months.
The magazine lists some of these companies, and as always, is full of stories on dozens of other growing companies, too.
Why do I write about this?
There’s enormous opportunity for non-profits to tap into new money for sponsorships at their benefit auctions.
Ask growing businesses for support. Leverage fast-moving companies. Align with a company that hasn’t yet been asked 100 times to donate to the XYZ charity.
Why not spend some research time looking in magazines like INC (and others) to research new businesses and find those likely to align with your mission?
The Chronicle of Philanthropy provides loads of information on the non-profit sector, but the business sector is where the cash for sponsorships resides. I wonder how many non-profits subscribe to and read INC, Entrepreneur, and other magazines that feature a plethora of growing businesses? (If you do, feel free to comment below as I’d love to hear from you.)
Reading these types of periodicals is a great way to comb for names and reach out to new sources of sponsorships for your charity auction. I learn about companies in my own metro area that I’d not (yet) heard of, but are doing well. And the breadth of industries covered is amazing.
Now, back to the pool.
