Benefit Auctioneer Biography

Lead auctioneer Sherry Truhlar ( VAR #3083) brings over ten years of corporate marketing and event experience to Red Apple Auctions. She began her auction career in 2001 working as a fundraiser art auctioneer with Avatar Galleries in King of Prussia, PA, selling art at benefit auctions organized by schools, churches, and social clubs. Sherry went on to work for two benefit auctioneers in the Washington, D.C. area before establishing Red Apple Auctions.

In her first year as a licensed auctioneer, Sherry claimed the Virginia Auctioneers Association (VAA) Rookie of the Year title, competing against eight other men and women to win top honors with “her presentation style and direct bid calling technique.” In August 2006, she took 6th place at the 29th Virginia State Champion Auctioneer Contest. It was her first year competing in the event, and judges commented on her “good salesmanship, eye contact with crowd, great smiles, clear voice, and overall pleasant rapport.”

As a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP), a top credential within the event management field, Sherry recognizes the importance of advance planning in order to have a successful charity auction. She works with each client prior to the event in order to ensure the gala runs smoothly.

Sherry is a life member of the National Auctioneers Association (NAA) and a member of the Virginia Auctioneers Association (VAA). She graduated from the Missouri Auction School. Sherry has a Professional Certificate in Event Management from George Washington University and has achieved the CMP designation from the Convention Industry Council. (Political Science) degrees are from Emporia State University in Kansas, and her M.A. (International Relations) degree is from the University of Wollongong in Australia.
